OHANA Mother + Daughter Retreat with Bethany Hamilton

This summer, Cobian ambassador Bethany Hamilton chose Moonlight Beach to host her Mother + Daughter Surf Day. Moonlight Beach is located in North County San Diego, is known for being one of the most popular beaches for locals and tourists alike searching for their share of sun, sand, and surf

The surf day is the finale of a three-month guided mentorship experience hosted by Bethany that allows mothers and daughters to connect with each other and grow with a group of "like-minded" women who can rely on each other for support, encouragement, and fruitful relationships.

This experience is an exclusive opportunity for mothers and daughters to deepen their bonds and establish meaningful mentorship roles. The ‘Ohana mother-daughter program includes twelve live mentorship sessions that equip those who participate with the tools to foster growth and connection.

“Life doesn’t come with a manual. It comes with a mother.” - OHANA

After the online series, the mother-daughter duos embark on a getaway, where they can meet other participants in person and strengthen each other through shared experiences. Ultimately, the moms get the opportunity to learn how to dive into critical conversations with their daughters and empowers them to mentor their daughters to navigate the world with grace, strength, clarity, and joy.

Nearly 40 mothers and daughters joined Bethany, Adam (Bethany's husband), and the rest of her team at the beach to attempt surfing for the first time. They received wetsuits, boards, and surf instructions from former Cobian team riders Marley & Shelby Peck and then ventured out into the surf with the hope of catching their first wave. Bethany joined them in the water, and helped position the girls to catch the best waves, and cheered them on as they stood up and experienced the joy of surfing. One of the moms from the event shared her thoughts on the greater impact that Mother + Daughter Surf Day had on her relationship with her daughter stating,

"You know, you only live once and you only have a short amount of time before your kids grow up. They move on out of the house. So I think that it's super important to grow in that relationship with your children. I think God created us to be mothers who are role models. And to just love our children. This experience has been nothing but that."

Few things in life give you a profound sense of accomplishment and reward like riding a wave for the first time provides, and overall...the experience helped strengthen the bonds of the mothers and daughters in attendance. Everyone joined together, and shared a dinner at the end of the day, and celebrated the chance to have something beautiful in common, and meet others in the same season of life.
